St. Cloud State ranked 2nd in DII preseason national poll

St. Cloud State University, the defending NCAA Division II national wrestling champion, has received a number two ranking in the 2015-16 Division II Wrestling Coaches’ Association preseason poll that was released on Oct. 28.

The Huskies and Nebraska-Kearney each received 145 points, while top-ranked Maryville University received 160 points and all eight available first-place votes.

Individually, the Huskies saw four of their wrestlers gained top two national rankings. Senior Clint Poster was ranked first in the country at 157 pounds, while junior 285-pounder Austin Goergen was also ranked number in the preseason poll. Tim Prescott, a returning national champion for the Huskies at 125-pounds, was ranked number one in the nation at 125-pounds. The nationally ranked group was completed by senior Gabe Fogarty, who was ranked number two in the country at 165-pounds.

The Huskies will kick-off their 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 6 with the Black/Red Classic Intrasquad match in Halenbeck Hall. The action gets underway at 7 p.m. and the night will include a special national championship banner ceremony prior to the start of the match. The public is invited to attend this special event at Halenbeck Hall, which will salute the NCAA champion Huskies.
