Open Bottle Of Liquor Found In Car After Head-On Crash: Police

LAKE COUNTY, IL — Three people were seriously injured in a head-on collision in Volo Sunday night, authorities said.

The collision occurred when a Ford Mustang traveling north in the southbound lanes of Route 12 at Russell Avenue in Volo collided head on with a Mitsubishi Outlander, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities found an open bottle of liquor in the Ford when they arrived at the scene, Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputy Christopher Covelli told Patch. . The driver of the Mitsubishi, a 36-year-old Deerfield woman, suffered critical injuries, including a fractured spine and brain bleeding, police said.

The driver of the Ford, a 24-year-old Fox Lake man, was also seriously injured and a front-seat passenger in the Ford, a 23-year-old man who was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered serious injuries and reported not being able to feel his legs, according to authorities.

The two drivers and the passenger were transported to area hospitals, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
