2 Mauled By Pack Of Pit Bulls In LA County

AZUSA, CA — Two people were mauled by a pack of pit bulls in the Azusa area Tuesday — the second time it’s happened in less than two weeks in Los Angeles County.

A man in his 20s suffered injuries to his torso and legs and was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and broadcast reports. His mother was also hospitalized with less serious injuries, KCAL9 reported.

The attack happened at a home in the 5000 block of North Orange Crest shortly before noon. Neighbors told KCAL 9, the dogs belonged to someone renting a room at the home.

“The Pit Bulls also didn’t have a name,” Biridianna Gutierrez told KCAL9. “The owner would call them, like, ‘One,’ ‘Two,’ ‘Three’ and I think ‘Four.'”

Footage from the scene showed deputies and Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control officials wrangling the pit bulls into a county truck.

On Feb. 16 a similar scene unfolded in a fatal dog attack in Compton.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, surveillance video caught, at least, part of the attack, which was believed to have occurred around 7:30 or 8 p.m. on Feb. 15 in the backyard of a home in the 900 block of North Thorson Avenue.

Dominic Cooper, 35, of Compton, died at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. He had been feeding his dogs when they began fighting and turned on him, investigators concluded. His girlfriend found his body in the yard the next day, and authorities had to wrangle the agitated pack of dogs to bring her out safely.

Cooper was apparently breeding the dogs, all of which were turned over to the county and ultimately euthanized.

“All dogs were euthanized due to evidence linking them to the attack,” according to a county Department of Animal Care and Control spokesman. “Given the potential threat posed to the community, this action was deemed necessary.”
