2 Bodies Found Off Sandy Hook In May, State Police Say

SANDY HOOK, NJ – State police are investigating the circumstances that led to two bodies recovered out of the the waters off Gateway National Park-Sandy Hook this month.

At around 3 p.m. on May 6, the body of a white adult woman was recovered from the water off of Gunnison Beach, a spokesperson for the New Jersey State Police said in a statement. The identification of the victim is not being released at this time pending family notification.

At around 6 p.m. on May 22, state troopers were alerted to a report of an adult white man found roughly one mile offshore north of Sandy Hook, the state police spokesperson told Patch. The FDNY’s Marine Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard recovered the body.

The victim has not been identified as of Thursday morning, the spokesperson added.

Investigations into the incidents are active and there are no additional details available at this time, state police said.
