Vince McMahon on Ronda Rousey Leaving, Update on Michael Elgin
As covered yesterday, the earnings call from WWE’s fourth quarter
took place on Thursday. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was on the call and
took the time to address a few different topics that callers were
interested in. Among the questions that McMahon answered was one that
had to do with Ronda Rousey. For those who are unaware, there was a
report from the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer a few weeks ago which
claimed that Ronda Rousey would likely be wrapping up her run with WWE
after WrestleMania 35 this April. Meltzer said that the current Raw
Women’s Champion had enjoyed her stint in WWE but is interested in
leaving so that she can start a family, which Rousey herself has openly
discussed in the past.
While speaking on the earnings call, a caller asked Vince about the possibility of Ronda leaving wrestling behind in a couple of months. Vince went into the specifics over how he views Ronda’s signing and if he considers it to be a success for the company. McMahon said that Ronda Rousey has helped the company reach more women ever since she signed with them last year. McMahon also praised Rousey for transitioning to pro wrestling so quickly and understanding how the business operates. However, McMahon did not specifically mention if Ronda Rousey will be taking a break after WrestleMania 35 ends. A previous statement from WWE mentioned that Rousey is under contract with the company until April 10th of 2021.
“When you put talent, rub talent up against Ronda, Ronda can help us make
talent, and she’s doing just that. She knows how to do it, she’s one of
the brightest people we’ve ever done business with. And the fact that
she’s adapted to the WWE culture so fast, it really is truly an amazing
salute to her as an athlete, and as a human being. So, the Rondas will
come in and out, and when they do, as long as we know what those dates
are, we plan around it.” McMahon said.
New Japan Pro Wrestling competitor Michael Elgin became a controversial figure in the industry last year after he was accused of sexual misconduct. Moses Malone had previously accused Elgin of covering up a case of sexual assault from former Glory Pro wrestler Sean Orleans. According to Michael Elgin on Twitter, an order of protection against him is set to be dismissed very soon. The order is apparently being dropped due to a lack of evidence. Elgin has since sold Glory Pro and continues to compete for NJPW and other promotions around the world. Malone posted her own statement on Elgin’s announcement on Twitter shortly afterwards, and the posts from her and Elgin can both be viewed down below:
2018 was a tough year, I tried to find solice in time with my wife and son. I had to take steps to save my career and a name I spent over half my life in building. I’m still mending and recouping from big losses in 2018. But today I’m happy we have 1 WIN to start. pic.twitter.com/MFmfsdx6iW

This was his big win. This was what they twisted and manipulated into evidence that the courts had declared there was no abuse. An OP from October that was dismissed two months ago due to the anonymity of the online harassment.
