WWE has posted a tribute video for Pedro Morales, which you can see below.
Morales’ death was reported on Tuesday, with WWE confirming the news not too long after. Morales has been suffering from advanced Parkinson’s Disease.
He is best known for becoming WWE’s first triple crown champion, winning all major titles that the WWE had to offer in the 1980s. He won the WWE (then WWWF) title on February 8, 1971 and held it for three years, losing to Stan Stasiak on December 1, 1973.
He would later go on to win the Intercontinental title on two occasions in the early 1980s, and also teamed with Bob Backlund to win the World Tag Team titles in 1980.
Once the company went national, Morales continued to work in the midcard until retiring in 1987. After retirement he served as a Spanish language announcer for both WWE and WCW. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1995.
