'Thank You Hillsborough!' Says Superintendent Of Referendum Votes
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — While the official final votes are still being finalized, Hillsborough School Superintendent Michael Volpe is thanking voters as it appears as though the District’s referendum for added security and staff is likely to pass.
“I wanted to thank you all. With 97 percent of votes in it looks we passed both questions for our Build Boro Back efforts,” said Volpe in a video on X to residents on Wednesday morning. “I wanted to have an early morning thank you. We can always do this together.

Hillsborough voters were asked to spend a total of an additional $2.8 million to create a security department and add staffing at the school district.

As of 11:11 p.m. on Tuesday, 2,761 voted to approve the additional staffing over the 2,075 no votes and 5,793 voted yes to creating a security department over the 4,677 no votes, according to unofficial results.
According to Somerset County, 97.22 percent of the districts have reported. However, these results remain unofficial as it may not include early voting, vote-by-mail, provisional ballots, or write-in votes. Final certification of the results must be done by Nov. 22.
