Roman Reigns Comments On Possibly Facing The Rock at WrestleMania, Why Reigns’ Remarks Might Be Significant

Back in the beginning of July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ignited much speculation regarding a possible WWE in-ring return when he told Cathy Kelley at a red carpet event that he “can’t wait” to step back into a WWE ring.

Following The Rock’s comments, reports surfaced that Rock has expressed interest in appearing at WrestleMania 35, although nothing has been confirmed or announced regarding his status.

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns recently spoke with Jon Robinson, the author of the new book which offers a behind-the-scenes look at the making of WrestleMania 34. During the interview, Reigns had the following to say on possibly facing The Rock at WrestleMania.

“I think [Rock would] be down with it…If it’s good for business, if it’s good for my career, I don’t see why not. If it’s all positive and he’s with it, I’ll take a slap punch, Rock bottom me, baby…just let me kick out at two.”

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports Reigns’ comments are somewhat significant in that Vince McMahon “hates” when top stars comment on or hype matches that are not going to happen, indicating a stronger possibility for a Roman Reigns vs Rock match.

The Observer points to a promo Steve Austin cut years ago on Brock Lesnar, with the promo being so strong that most people believed it was absolutely leading to a match between the two. Afterwards, Vince McMahon was reportedly furious with everyone involved in the promo as he knew the bout was not going to happen.
