Report Of Razor In Meat To Harm Pets Investigated: Police
SEVERN, MD — Is someone trying to harm pets in the Severn area? A reader posted on a Patch Facebook page that someone put razors in meat to hurt animals, but nothing has been confirmed. Anne Arundel County Police say the department has taken a report about such a claim.
A reader posted a link to the Glen Burnie Patch Facebook page: “Someone is coming into Elmhurst Estates in Severn and throwing raw sausage links stuffed with razor blades into the yards of pet owners it has happened on three separate occasions in a few weeks. Be on the lookout for food in your yard when your pets are out.”
The uncorroborated post originally made on the Anne Arundel First Alert page has received more than 2,100 shared online, and Patch contacted police to ask about the validity of the report.
Anne Arundel Police spokeswoman Sgt. Jacklyn Davis said the department has one report filed about possible tampered meat and the Western District Detective Unit is actively investigating it. There is no other information to release so far, she said.
Readers and commenters on the Facebook post are outraged, urging physical harm to anyone who tampers food in such a manner. Commenter Mary-Jo Yunaska Bedsworth wrote, “This is disgusting. We just moved out of Elmhurst Estates, a nice community where almost everyone cleans up after their dogs and dogs are not running free.”
Pet owners were urged online to be vigilant about their dog’s safety, and residents were asked to check their home security videos for possible suspects.
