Michael Lanell Terry, 35, was sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Altus Hudson Monday as part of a plea agreement for the December 2021 slaying.
“Our hearts go out to the families of Mr. Cohran, an artist in the Los Angeles community who was taken far too soon by a tragic act of gun violence,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Our Community Violence Reduction Unit vigorously prosecutes gun violence to protect our communities. Gun violence has no place in our society, and we will continue to work closely with communities we serve to help prevent these senseless crimes.”

Terry pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Monday and also admitted the use of a firearm and a felony strike prior conviction.
According to prosecutors, Terry shot the rapper, whose real name was Vincent Cohran as the two men struggled in Cohran’s front yard during the early morning hours. A co-defendant, Tamra Lynn Bell, previously pleaded guilty to felony accessory after the fact and is awaiting sentencing.
