Over 15M viewers tuned in to first Democratic debate on NBC
The first night of the Democratic presidential debates drew in 15.3 million viewers for NBC, MSNBC and Telemundo, the network said Thursday, citing Nielsen Fast National Data.
The two-hour debate, featuring Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke, fell short of the 24 million who watched the first Republican debate of the 2016 election cycle on Fox News that included Donald Trump.
The contest nearly matched the first Democratic primary debate in October 2015 that brought in 15.46 viewers for CNN.
Most of Wednesday evening’s audience – 8.67 million – watched on NBC, while MSNBC averaged 5.87 million viewers and 719,000 watched on Telemundo.
NBC said the debate attracted 18 million viewers across all platforms and devices.
It said 4.3 million adults 25-54 and 3.7 million adults 18-49 tuned in.
The second night of the Democratic debate will be aired Thursday between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. in Miami and will include front-runner Joe Biden, Sens. Bernie Sanders and Kamala Harris, and Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
