Days after publicly announcing his diagnosis, Nathan Adrian is updating his fans on his battle with testicular cancer.

Sharing the posts to his social media accounts on Tuesday, Adrian, 30, thanked his followers for their support before opening up about the procedures he had recently undergone.

“Thank you to everyone for all your unbelievable support!” he wrote. “Quick update: I underwent a laparoscopic RPLND procedure yesterday which means they took out some of my lymph nodes that the cancer may have spread to with the help of a robot ?.”

“My doctor said it went well and my pathology report (which will tell us if it had spread) should be back in another week or so,” the three-time Olympian and eight-time medalist explained.

“Until then, we are going to do everything we can to get back to normal life as quickly as possible while staying well within my doctors’ parameters of course!” he optimistically finished.

Along with the update on Instagram, Adrian posted two photos of himself smiling in the hospital, as well as a video of him slowly walking down the halls with the assistance of an IV pole and waving.

Adrian first announced on Instagram last week that he had been diagnosed with testicular cancer, but he was still hoping to train for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

The U.S. swimmer explained he had been feeling unwell and visited a doctor because something “didn’t seem quite right.”

“At the very least, I still needed to get my flu shot so it couldn’t hurt,” Adrian wrote. “After a few tests and visits with a specialist, I, unfortunately, learned that I have Testicular Cancer.”

“Life, like swimming the 100 free, can come at you hard and fast as you can’t always see who, or what, may be chasing you down,” he said.

Testicular cancer is a rare but highly treatable condition that generally affects American males between the ages of 15 and 35 but can occur at any time, according to the Mayo Clinic. Despite the diagnosis, Adrian remained focused on the positives and on the future.

“On the bright side, we caught it early, I have already started treatment and the prognosis is good,” he wrote on Instagram. “I will be back in the water in a few short weeks with my sights fully set on Tokyo!”

He also noted that he hopes to share his journey “in an effort to help break the stigma of discussing men’s health issues.”

“I’ve realized that too often we tend to avoid these important topics, ignore the potential warning signs, and put off getting the medical help that we may need,” he explained.

In September, Adrian married his longtime love, Hallie Ivester, in Napa Valley, California. Ivester was captured smiling next to her husband in one of the Instagram pictures as he recuperated in the hospital.

Finishing his post, Adrian emphasized that he is grateful the support and was expected to undergo surgery sometime in the next week.

“As I told my family, I’ll be putting my public health degree to work a little sooner than I planned! But in all seriousness, I am keeping a positive attitude as cases such as mine are curable,” he explained.

“I am extremely grateful for my family and friends, especially my wife, for their love and support,” Adrian added. “I am scheduled for surgery early next week and will provide an update soon.”
