NWA Powerrr Results (1/14): Scott Steiner in Action, TV Title Qualifiers, Ashley Vox vs Melina & More

NWA Powerrr
January 14, 2019

— The brackets are revealed for the NWA World Television Championship tournament. In Block A we have Tim Storm taking on the winner of the Dawson vs. Dawson battle, as well as Ricky Starks taking on one of two open slots that will remain a mystery until next week. Block B will see Zicky Dice face the second open slot, while Question Mark battles either Thomas Latimer or Trevor Murdoch.

NWA Television Title Tournament Qualifier
Dave Dawson vs. Zane Dawson

They traded corner splashes until Zane came off the second rope with a giant crossbody for two. Dave came back with a series of lariats and tackles until he took his brother down with a one-leg dropkick. The two went at it in the corner with wild rights and lefts, getting more and more worked up until Dave lost it and started going after Zane’s casted up broken hand. The referee split them up to check on the injury, and Zane gave one final desperate shot to the face using his cast, picking up the win. This was not what I would call “pretty”.

Winner: Zane Dawson

Ashley Vox vs. Melina

Vox hit a dropkick right out of the gate, but Melina took her to the mat and started raining down closed right fists, drawing a lecture from the referee. Vox responded with a headscissors DDT and tried for a running cannonball in the corner, but crashed and burned as she came up empty. Melina slowed things down for a few minutes keeping her opponent grounded, hitting a few nice kicks. Vox at one point surprised her with a rollup, but it wasn’t enough. She started throwing desperate elbow strikes, but Melina threw a few back that were twice as hard. They went back and forth with strikes until Melina hit her headlock legdrop finisher.

Winner: Melina

— Melina cut a rough promo talking trash and calling out women’s champion Allysin Kay. The champ came out and got in her face, telling her if she wanted a shot she’s got it, right here and right now. Put up or shut up. Melina begged off and said she wanted a match for next week instead.

— Footage was shown of Nick Aldis and his faction invading this past weekend’s Ring of Honor events in Atlanta. During the second night he cut a promo calling out Villain Enterprises, and the two factions nearly came to blows before the NWA stars were kicked out of the building. Aldis called it ironic that it was the same building in Atlanta where he beat Marty Scurll last time, but apparently Flip Gordon didn’t learn a good enough lesson from that match. Aldis vs. Flip is officially announced for NWA Hard Times.

— The Pope (fka Elijah Burke/D’Angelo Dinero) arrived on Powerrr. He was asked if he was a manager, and said he was just there to help people not getting the same kinds of opportunities as guys like Aron Stevens, who he calls an ass. Pope challenged Stevens and Question Mark to step in the ring with Eddie Kingston and Homicide. The later had his shoulder taped up but said he’s ready to go.

Aron Stevens & Question Mark vs. Outlaw Inc.

Stevens thought he was actually good at karate, and the Outlaws beat the absolute hell out of him, alternating in with quick tags and hitting big double team moves. Eventually Stevens gouged Homicide’s eyes and threw him hard into his corner, tagging in Question Mark to work over his injured, bandaged up shoulder. This slowed things down briefly until Kingston hit the ring and just delivered a wild beatdown to Stevens, biting his face, throwing right fists, etc. Question Mark hit him with the spike to the throat, and the two continued to stomp on Homicide’s bad shoulder until dropping him with a spike as well.

Winners: Stevens & Question Mark

— Nick Aldis came out followed by his entire faction, including the newest addition – big Poppa Pump himself, Scott Steiner. They gave Steiner the mic and he immediately started cursing and raving about the fat rednecks in attendance. He had the old NWA tag team belt that he won with Rick back in Jim Crockett Promotions, and called the Steiners the greatest tag team in history, before promising to kick the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express’ collective asses. Something like that. There was a lot of nonsense.

Six-Man Tag Team Match
Strictly Business (Scott Steiner, Royce Isaacs & Thomas Latimer) vs. Robert Gibson, Eli Drake & Tim Storm

Latimer made the mistake of underestimating old man Gibson early on, who caught him with uppercuts and a few quick moves before tagging in Tim Storm, who ran wild with running big boots and fallaway slam for Isaacs as well. Eli Drake tagged in and hit an elbow drop with his usual antics, but Strictly Business hit the ring and swarmed him, leading to an all-out brawl.

Steiner eventually got his first tag and planted Drake with a belly-to-belly suplex. And just like that he tagged out, allowing Latimer to slow things down for a beat, wrenching away on a side headlock. The heels alternated in and out with basic offense. A lot of stomping and clubbing blows. Steiner came in and hit another belly-to-belly, and left again. Latimer came back in and went back to the side headlock. Are you seeing a pattern here?

Finally Drake planted Latimer with a running DDT and made the hot tag to Gibson. The tag team legend hit a sunset flip pin on Isaacs and started rocking with right hands and elbow strikes, before locking in a sleeper hold. Latimer made the save and it once again turned into a huge brawl. Camille tried to spear Tim Storm again, but he dodged and she hit the steps instead. Drake dropped Isaacs with a neckbraker, and Gibson rolled him up to score the pin. Ricky Morton gets his title shot!

Winners: Gibson, Drake & Storm
