Milford's New Business Offers New Items At Discounted Prices

MILFORD, CT — Andy Leung has been running his business in Milford for the past seven years, but when he saw an opportunity to open a second business, he took the chance.

Leung opened The Bagful Liquidation at 354 Woodmont Rd., Unit 14. They are open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are closed on Mondays.

“We are a discount store. We have stuff from Walmart, Target, Costco, Best Buy and more,” he said. “We buy the merchandise directly from the stores. For example, we buy directly from Costco, so there’s no agent.”

It is a little different with Amazon, Leung said. Sometimes, they buy merchandise directly from them or through an agent, depending on the item.

The Bagful Liquidation officially opened on Sunday, Sept. 22.

“We have been open for five days,” Leung said enthusiastically. “I was expecting maybe three or four people to come on our first day, but we got a lot of people, more than I was expecting. During the week, it’s a little quiet, but every day, I have people coming into the store.

“A lot of people like it because the store is organized, and they don’t have to look for things in bins,” he added. “90 percent of our store is new items. They are overstocked items that we get from sellers or vendors,” Leung said.

The idea came to Leung to start this type of business because he saw how popular stores like The Dollar Store or Five Below are, and he wanted to provide the same service with quality items. But also, being in the packaging businesses in Milford for seven years, Leung had met many vendors.

“When they have many overstocked items available in their warehouses, people don’t know how to get them,” he said. “Also, when stores want to liquidate items, I contact them, and since many people don’t know how to get those items, I get them and offer them at a discounted price.”

Leung said he thought about starting an online business but instead wanted to provide a service for locals.

“I want this store to be enjoyed by locals, and I want to provide this service to the community,” he said.

Leung said most of the items in the store have been discounted 40 percent to 80 percent off the original cost, depending on the item.

“I have a QR code on the product that links to its original website. So, when people scan the QR code, it can go to Walmart.com, and they will see the original price of the product and then see my price on the package,” he said.

“If it is already open box, we check on the conditions and discount it more,” Leung added. “For example, we have Costco Tyson Vacuums in stock that we have discounted 50 percent of the original price. But they are open box items.”

Leung said he is getting ready for the Holiday and has enough products in the store for people who want to buy presents for friends or family.

“I’m getting more things already to be ready for the stock because I don’t want to run out of stock,” he said.
