Michelle Obama Explains That Viral Mint Exchange with George W. Bush at His Father’s Funeral

The unexpected nature of the friendship is what’s truly charmed the internet, but the pair’s relationship didn’t start with the candy swap — who could forget their adorable hug in 2016 at dedication of the National Museum of American History and Culture?

Earlier this year, Obama told Today  that Bush had become her “partner in crime” after years of sitting together at events.

More recently, the former First Lady spoke with his daughter Jenna Bush Hager during a Today interview, sharing how their differing political views aren’t an obstacle in their friendship.

“We’re all American. We all care about our family our kids and we’re trying to get ahead. We have different ideas about what’s the best way to get there. That doesn’t make me evil. And that doesn’t make him, you know, stupid,” she told Hager. “It’s just a disagreement and that’s how I feel about your father. You know? He’s a beautiful, funny, kind, sweet.”
