Man Attacks Businesses, Cop Car During Manchester Vandalism Spree

MANCHESTER, CT — Police had to subdue a man who went on a vandalism binge in the downtown business district Thursday. He is now facing several charges, police said.

At 12:25 a.m. Thursday, Manchester police were alerted to the sounds of glass breaking in the area of Cottage and Main streets. When officers arrived at the scene, they noticed several businesses were damaged, including broken glass, windows and doors, according to a news release.

Officers then located 37-year-old Daniel Ceasar of Manchester actively smashing windows on Main Street with two metal rebar rods, according to a news release.

Officers ordered Ceasar to drop the metal rods and get on the ground, but Ceasar did not comply with the commands and officers deployed a taser, which was ineffective, according to a news release.

Ceasar then approached a police cruiser and struck the passenger side window of the cruiser with the metal rod, at which time officers tackled Ceasar and he was taken into custody, according to an incident report.

No injuries were reported, but eight properties were damaged, police said.

Ceasar was to be brought to Manchester Superior Court Thursday to face charges that include
seven counts of first-degree criminal mischief and a single count of second-degree criminal mischief, according to a news release.

He has also been charged with second-degree breach of peace, second-degree threatening, carrying a dangerous weapon (two counts) and interfering with police, according to a news release.
