Late interior decorator Mario Buatta, known as “the prince of chintz,” famously decorated the homes of clients including Barbara Walters, Billy Joel and Mariah Carey. He died last October, about a week short of his 83rd birthday.
Now Buatta’s home, at 120 E. 80th St., is about to hit the market for $4.9 million.
A full parlor floor, the apartment is in a six-story, double-wide townhouse built in 1929.
It features an octagonal entrance hall and a dining room, a private library, a living room with floor-to-ceiling windows and high ceilings.
Buatta’s signature over-the-top style can be seen in the listing photos, which are colorful and crammed full of furniture and curios.
The townhouse is the former home of banker George Whitney, former head of JP Morgan, and is known as the George and Martha Whitney House.
