A team of seven doctors worked for over three-and-a-half hours on Wednesday evening to extricate three iron rods that pierced through the torso of a South 24-Parganas labourer after he fell 10 feet from a scaffolding.

Uday Sardar (45) travelled more than 40km from the accident site in Ghutiari Sharif in an ambulance, first to Baruipur Hospital and finally to the Chittaranjan National Medical College Hospital (CNMC) in Kolkata, making the journey in two-and-a-half hours, propped up by his friends throughout the ride.
