Granny cardigans are somehow sexy again! (Thanks, Bella Hadid)
Move over grandma heels, we’ve got a new geriatric trend in town. While the term “cardigan” might conjure up some old-school connotations, they’re back and slinkier than ever.
Granted, this isn’t the first time cardis got the sexed-up treatment — the mid- to late-’90s were all about teeny sweaters in a range of pastel shades. Think Rose McGowan’s short-sleeve, cropped version in “Jawbreakers” or Cher’s mint green, fur-trimmed one in “Clueless.” And thanks to the resurgence of ’90s and early Y2K fashions (hi, visible thongs), it’s no surprise that the cardigan would have its moment once again.
The key to looking cool in a cardi is the styling: Wear them nearly undone — and go braless or layer them over a slinky bralette. Basically, take a cue from Instagirls Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner and pretty much all those European influencers that pop up on your “Explore” feed.
Jeanne Damas, the founder of knit-forward brand Rouje, has 1.1 million followers and counting on Instagram — and a propensity for sexy sweaters.
When asked how to wear one like a fashionable French girl, Damas told the Post, “I usually think of a cardigan as a top rather than a sweater in the warmer months and pair with jeans or a wrap skirt.”
So, to give the demure staple a modern makeover, leave the layering to your nanna!
