‘Glow’ Season 3 goes to Vegas: Here’s how to get the look
This costume designer is putting the “gorgeous” in Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.
Netflix’s “Glow,” which follows the fictionalized careers of scrappy lady wrestlers, premieres its third season Friday, Aug. 9. And thanks to costume designer Beth Morgan, the ’80s fashion featured in the show is more glam than ever.
The looks honor Morgan’s inspiration to become a fashion designer in the first place: Bob Mackie, the over-the-top fashion designer for Cher known as the “the sultan of sequins.” Mackie is even name-dropped by Jenny (Ellen Wong) in one of the scenes.
“[Mackie] would have been in this time period and doing this work,” Morgan tells Fashionista.com. “We should pay homage to him. It was the right thing to do.”
The fact that the show is set in Las Vegas helps too, of course: “[There’s this] opulence to the way people in Vegas dress,” Morgan says. “So over the top, ridiculous, like throwing money in the air.”
Characters such as Ruth (Alison Brie) and Debbie (Betty Gilpin) fit right in with their many glittery jewel toned get-ups, including a barely there gilded dress worn by Ruth — instead of her usual high-rise faded mom jeans.
“My goal going into this season was to really give the people what they want, which is a ton of over-the-top sequins,” Morgan says.
It may be an extreme take on a bygone era, but these ’80s trends are still easy to find in 2019. Here are few tamer ways to get the looks.
