Dubs challenge next for Kildare in O’Byrne Cup while Louth set for battle with Meath

THE FOOTBALLERS OF Kildare and Louth continue to hit the ground running in January.

The Lilywhites fired in another three goals today to clinch their third win in the group stages of the Bord Na Móna O’Byrne Cup and ensure they will be at home to Dublin in next weekend’s semi-final tie.

A last four clash also beckons Louth after their five-point win today against Carlow. They will take on near neighbours Meath next Sunday, the Royals drawing against Laois last night to finish top of Group 3.

Niall Kelly, Eoin Doyle and Tommy Moolick struck the goals for Cian O’Neill’s Kildare team at O’Connor Park as they saw off Offaly by 3-11 to 0-8. The success ensured they finished top of Group 2 with Longford back in second place after they won a nine-goal match against Carlow by 5-11 to 4-6.

In Group 4, Louth did the business against Carlow with goals from Conal McKeever, Anthony Williams and Gerard McSorley proving significant in their victory. There were also wins elsewhere today for Westmeath against Maynooth University and Wicklow over Dublin IT.
