De Blasio urges New Yorkers to ‘stay inside’ in advance of stormy weather
Mayor Bill de Blasio warned city dwellers to prepare for rough weather on Wednesday as heavy storms headed toward the five boroughs.
“We’re in for some severe weather this evening, with strong winds, heavy downpours and potentially hail,” hizzoner tweeted.
“I urge everyone to stay inside tonight if you can. If you must travel, stay off the roads — use public transportation. Keep an eye on @NotifyNYC for updates.”
There was a 60% chance of heavy thunderstorms in the city, beginning at 6 p.m, according to Accuweather.
The alert from de Blasio came one day after a tornado touched down in Stanhope, NJ — toppling trees and power lines.
Stanhope is about 45 miles from the city.
