Cristiano Ronaldo Tears Up While Singing National Anthem

In the lead-up to Portugal’s World Cup match against Ghana, Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to be fighting back the tears as he sang the national hymn. Thursday afternoon in Doha’s Stadium 974 will see the tournament’s first match, which will be played against Ghana.

After Cristiano Ronaldo and his ten colleagues walked from the tunnel, the Portugal team lined up to sing the national anthem.

Most players appeared to be focused as the camera moved along the line, but Ronaldo’s passion was evident, as seen by the tears in his eyes and the little quiver of his bottom lip.

The seasoned forward is participating in his sixth World Cup and will be looking to bring the title back to Portugal in what is almost certainly going to be his final tournament with the national team. 

Teams from Ghana, Uruguay, and South Korea compete in Group H alongside Fernando Santos’ team.

Recently, the 37-year-old striker’s long feud with Manchester United has been widely reported. In an interview with Piers Morgan, he said he felt “betrayed.” 

On Tuesday, the club said they had decided to let him out of his contract seven months early.

Ronaldo is now a free agent, and while he has been preoccupied with everything about his club, he is also concentrating on Portugal’s performance in the World Cup.

On Tuesday, Ronaldo issued a statement to confirm the speculation that he would be leaving his position as a player for Manchester United. He stated, “Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.” 

“I love Manchester United, and I love the fans; that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”

His uncertain future at United had become a source of controversy and worry for Portugal. 

Questions about Ronaldo dominated their press conference before the Ghana game, and both Bruno Fernandes and Giovani dos Santos looked annoyed.
