Crash On 84 Causes SigAlert, Car Fire, Major Injuries: CHP

SUNOL, CA – A collision between two cars on SR-84 east of 680 resulted in a SigAlert and a roughly two-hour road closure, car fire, and injured drivers, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 11:50 a.m., a 2002 Nissan Altima traveling westbound crossed over double yellow lines and crashed into an oncoming 2007 Subaru Outback, according to CHP Officer Tyler Hahn.

The Subaru burst into flames, which local emergency crews were able to extinguish. At the same time, the driver of the Nissan was trapped inside for about 20-30 minutes as crews worked to extinguish the fire. Construction workers on-site were able to separate the cars so that the Nissan didn’t catch on fire as well.
