Cowboys Cornerback Arrested For October 2017 Assault: Reports

FRISCO, TX — Dallas Cowboys cornerback Marquez White was arrested in June in connection to an October 2017 road rage incident in which he allegedly brandished a gun on Dallas North Tollway, various news outlets report.

KDFW reported that White was driving home when he and another motorist exchanged words on the Dallas North Tollway service road. White then pulled a gun that he legally owned and showed it to the other driver.

The man followed White to his apartment and called police, the news station wrote wrote.

It’s unclear why it took eight months for White to be indicted in the incident, but his attorney, Toby Shook, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram there was a “breakdown in communications.’

“Marquez did everything legally,” Shook told the newspaper. “He displayed a gun, but didn’t point it at this individual because he was very concerned with how this individual was making threats. I’m hopeful that this case can be dismissed because I don’t think he violated the law.”

White, 23, was indicted June 7 on one count of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and is currently free on a $7,500 bond, the Star-Telegram reported.

White sent a statement to the Dothan Eagle in his home town of Dothan, Alabama, in which he described the road rage incident. It read, in part, “he pulled over to my driver side while still driving and proceeded to yell racial slurs such as the ‘N’ word while also threatening to kill me. Simultaneously while doing this he began to reach towards his glove box and that is when I flashed my weapon.”

White’s statement went on to say that he believes the allegations are personal in nature.

“Me and my legal team believe strongly that this a personal attack on my image as well as the Star,” he told the newspaper.
