Costanzo and O’Grady Earn Top NSIC Wrestling Honors for 2012-13

St. Cloud State University senior wrestler Shamus O’Grady was named the 2012-13 NSIC Wrestler of the Year and Husky head coach Steve Costanzo was named the 2012-13 NSIC Coach of the Year. The Huskies also placed eight athletes on the 2012-13 All-NSIC teams.

Huskies named to the 2012-13 All-NSIC First Team included Eric Forde (125 lbs), Andy Pokorny (133 lbs.), Jacob D. Horn (149 lbs.), Clint Poster (157 lbs.), O’Grady (184 lbs.) and Jacob Kahnke (285 lbs.). SCSU wrestlers named ot the All-NSIC Second Team in 2012-13 included Matt Nelson (141 lbs.) and Gabe Fogarty (165 lbs.).

O’Grady finished his career at St. Cloud State University with mark of 108-28 including a 40-1 record as a senior.  O’Grady was a four-time NCAA DII national qualifier, a four-time NCAA DII All-American (finishing sixth, fourth, fourth and first) and the 2013 NCAA DII National Champion at 184-pounds.  He was a two-time Super Region 3 Champion and Outstanding Wrestler Award winner.

O’Grady was named NSIC All-Conference selection four years in a row including three of the four with first team honors.  He will be named the Dean Weismann (Husky Wrestler of the Year) award winner for 2012-13.  He capped off his career by being named the 2013 NCAA DII Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.

Costanzo was voted by his peers for the third consecutive season as the NSIC Wrestling Coach of the Year. St. Cloud State placed second in the nation for the third straight year at the 2013 NCAA Division II championships; won the 2013 NCAA Division II Super Region #3 title and the NSIC Regular Season Championship.

The second place national finish tied for the highest national tournament finish for the Huskies in team history, and the Huskies took top honors for the second year in a row at the elite NWCA National Duals in 2013.  Coach Costanzo’s overall record at SCSU currently stands at 100-23.  The Huskies have also tied a DIvision II record by winning 47 consecutive dual meets heading into the 2013-14 season.

NSIC All-Conference Criteria
The highest place-winner at the NCAA Regional Tournament from each weight class shall be named all-conference first team. The runner up will be named all-conference second team.  Also, any wrestler that earns NCAA All-American honors will also be recognized as second team all-conference.
