Chris Masters Reveals Why WWE Scrapped Plans For Him to Win a Title at WrestleMania, Why He Quit Impact

Former WWE and Impact Wrestling star Chris Masters recently appeared on the “Pancakes and Powerslams” show and below are some interview highlights via The Sportster.

On initial plans for him at WrestleMania:

“Actually, the original plans was we were gonna win the titles [at WrestleMania], but then I think what happened was [Kane and Big Show] ended up dropping them to the Spirit Squad, which shows that they made it not necessarily a plan,” said Masters. “They wanted to turn [Carlito] babyface and keep me as a heel, which is what they did. So, we were supposed to win the tag belts originally, but then plans changed.”

On if he would be open to a WWE return:

“I would definitely listen to the phone call, for sure,” said Masters. “It’ll be nice if [WWE] did, but it’s not necessarily an aspiration of mine at this point. I’m enjoying what I’m doing, and the freedom. And I’m just getting older now. [I don’t know how long a run] in WWE could last at this point. Some guys are able to do it well into their 40s, but I’m 35 now, so I’m just thinking about what I could do long-term outside of the wrestling I’m doing now, obviously.”

On why he left Impact Wrestling:

“I like Eli Drake. He’s actually a great dude,” said Masters. “It was just the way [Impact] had us booked was, you know, they had us kinda in cohoots or as a unit was one time thing. But it was like featuring him and using me as the fall guy or cheerleader and got to the point where they were gonna book me in something meaningful that could be useful to me and my work outside of here, or at least pay me appropriate for this and neither one of those were being met, So, in the end, I eventually just decided that I want out of this. I was tired of being, like you said, used as a fall guy.”
