Bobby Kinner on Wednesday scripted history by becoming the first transgender member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Kinnar, the only transgender candidate who contested the MCD polls on Sunday, won from Sultanpuri A ward.
She defeated her nearest rival, Congress’ Varuna Dhaka, by over 6,700 votes.
“I want to dedicate my victory to the people who worked so hard for me. I would like to thank everyone. Now I just have to work for development in my area,” she said after the victory.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party was the first to give a seat to a transgender in the MCD polls.
AAP has inched closer to the majority mark of 126 in the MCD elections as it emerged victorious in 106 wards, while BJP bagged 84 wards as counting continues.
The Congress was a distant third after winning five wards, while Independent candidate Shakila won in Seelampur.
The MCD has 250 wards and the simple majority mark is 126.
