The Australian men’s basketball team has withdrawn from its FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers encounter vs Iran in Tehran as it fears for the safety of the players, as per rappler,com.
“Basketball Australia has conducted a thorough risk assessment in conjunction with relevant authorities and as a result, we will not be sending any teams into Iran at this time,” said Basketball Australia’s statement.
Protests have erupted in Iran after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody.

Over 300 demonstrators have been killed and 15,000 are detained.
FIBA said the game will be forfeited in favour of Iran.
