Angry Fans Start ‘All Elite Wrestling’ Chants During WWE Raw Main Event
Generally, the first episode of Monday Night Raw following WrestleMania each year is a time for joyous celebration, as fans from all over the world gather together to witness epic returns, surprising debuts and shocking moments to kick off a brand new year of WWE programming.
This Monday night’s show, however, was not as universal praised as one might hope. While fans seemed to respond well enough to special moments like the return of The Undertaker, and the long-awaited debut of Lars Sullivan, the main event was a bit less… well-received, shall we say?
Originally, the company promoted a huge “Winner Take All” match between WWE Champion Kofi Kingston and Universal Champion Seth Rollins, with both world titles on the line. However, just moments into the bout, the main event was changed into a tag team match after Cesaro and Sheamus inexplicably got involved, attacking both men.
The live crowd at the Barclays Center did not exactly take kindly to the perceived bait-and-switch tactic, booing the decision heavily as WWE quickly cut to the final commercial break of the night. Numerous fan reports from inside the arena confirmed that a loud, angry contingent of paying customers were chanting for “CM PUNK” during the break, followed by an even louder “AEW” chant, for the upcoming All Elite Wrestling promotion.

It was assumed by most going into the bout that it was going to end with some kind of shenanigans — likely a major angle or debut, given that it was the first Raw after WrestleMania. However, after Rollins and Kingston picked up a victory over The Bar, the show simply went off the air with no additional fanfare.
