Kilkenny fire 6 goals at Abbotstown while Wexford and Laois triumph again

KILKENNY HURLERS LINED out in new surroundings in Abbotstown this afternoon but they still thrived as they fired six goals en route to a comfortable Walsh Cup win over Antrim.

Brian Cody’s side are now in pole position to advance from Group 2 and they got off to a lightning start today with goals from Jonjo Farrell in the 3rd minute and Ollie Walsh in the 8th minute.

TJ Reid supplied 0-7 in that opening period with Kilkenny adding further goals after the interval courtesy of Richie Hogan and Richie Leahy before Farrell and Leahy each hit the net for a second time before the final whistle.

It was also a good afternoon for Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford side as they stayed unbeaten with a 15-point victory over Carlow and now face a midweek tie against Dublin to determine who will advance from Group 3.

In Group 1, Laois raised four green flags en route to a triumph against Dublin IT and now will battle it out with Galway for top spot.

Finally it finished level between Offaly and IT Carlow – the table-toppers in Group 4 – while Meath and Westmeath had victories in their group ties against DCU and Kildare respectively.
