AEW News & Notes: Tony Khan Heavily Involved, Awesome Kong's Appearance, more

— AEW President Tony Khan was heavily involved in last night’s Double or Nothing PPV, pretty much situated in the Gorilla Position for a good chunk of the night and he was responsible for timing the PPV. With it being his first time doing this, many came away impressed with how he had the PPV finished 15 minutes before its allotted time slot was up. Khan was also seen congratulating many of the talent after their matches, even giving some of the high-fives and thanking others for their efforts. According to pwinsider.com, observers backstage were said to be “touched” by his enthusiasm as they realized truly how invested he is in this venture.

— Awesome Kong’s surprise appearance at Double or Nothing was agreed to approximately four months ago but according to Kong, only four people even know she would be there at the PPV. Kong noted that Diamond Dallas Page gave her a motivational speech backstage before her match, allowing her to re-find the “Kong” persona as she hadn’t wrestled in a long time.

— Kevin Sullivan was reportedly responsible for the video packages seen on the Double or Nothing PPV. Keith Mitchell headed up the overall production and there were said to be a number of former WCW employees production employees working the PPV as well. Bob Rosen, a former TNA employee, built the ring that was used by AEW as it was apparently slightly larger than those used by other promotions.
