NXT War Games Configuration Confirmed
When NXT announced it was going to be using the War Games match concept, a lot of fans of the older matches wondered how close to the original match is WWE revival would be. Today we got confirmation of at least one aspect of the match will be just like the original.
Ticket Master, on their website, confirmed that the layout of NXT Takeover: War Games on November 18th in Houston will, in fact, feature a two ring set up, just like the original matches were back in the 1980s and 90s. Many had wondered if the two ring set up would be retained from the original concept since over the years it has been said Vince McMahon hated the idea of two rings. However, under Triple H’s creative control, we will see it for a WWE event for the very first time.
The War Games was a concept first created by Dusty Rhodes in 1987. The match featured two rings, side by side, covered in a steel cage with a roof on it. The very first war games match took place on July 4th, 1987 and featured the teams of Dusty Rhodes, Nikita Koloff, The Road Warriors, and Paul Ellering facing the Four Horsemen Team of Rick Flair, Lex Luger, Arm Anderson, Tully Blanchard, and JJ Dillon.
So while some of the rules may not be original to the NWA classic, at least the look and design of the match will.
