F4W NEWSLETTER: Figure Four Weekly: Jon Moxley and the WWE creative process

After becoming the talk of the professional wrestling world when he joined AEW at Double or Nothing, Jon Moxley took things up to another level when he appeared on Chris Jericho’s Talk is Jericho podcast last week.

While prefacing his comments with how grateful he was for his time in WWE, Moxley got years of frustration off his chest in the 90-plus minute podcast episode. The WWE creative process was his target, with Moxley saying that one of his goals in AEW is to prove that the process WWE uses sucks, is absolutely terrible, and is “killing the company.”

MONDAY NEWS UPDATE

Bryan and I will be back tonight talking Raw and taking e-mail questions that you can send to [email protected].

Beacuse of an issue with g-mail, anything that was sent to [email protected] or [email protected] between Saturday night and Sunday at about 7 P.M. Eastern did not get here over the last 24 hours. It is now fixed but the e-mails sent during that 18 hour period did not reach us, so if you sent anything to either of these e-mail addresses, please resend. It is working now.

Even though there is a Smackdown house show tonight in Reno with Roman Reigns, Bayley and Drew McIntyre among others advertised, at least some Smackdown talent is in San Jose for Raw. Bayley plugged a Hometown champion T-shirt which at least indicates she’ll be in San Jose as champion. McIntyre is advertised for both places.

Raw would be expected tonight to do among its lowest ratings in history going against what could be the final game of the NBA finals and with the return of Kevin Durant. Announced for the show is a tag title match with Zack Ryder & Curt Hawkins in a three-way against both the Usos and The Revival, Miz TV with Samoa Joe, perhaps setting up a program there, and Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre with a celebration of Shane’s win over Roman Reigns on Friday. There will also be a Lars Sullivan vs. Lucha House Party 1 vs. 3 elimination match.

The Laredo Kid vs. El Hijo del Vikingo match that was the talk inside wrestling yesterday, from AAA in Monterrey.

We are tentatively doing a Q&A on Saturday morning 8/31 at the Hyatt Place Chicago/Shaumburg at 10 a.m. local time which is the morning of the AEW show. We’ll have more info coming but there should be e-mailers sent to subscribers for into on tickets to the show, hotel and a Wrestling Observer section at the All Out show forthcoming. AAW has also noted to us that they will be doing live shows on Thursday and Friday night at the Logan Square Auditorium in Chicago, so I’d say it’s close to a lock we’ll be attending the Friday night show there.

Jon Moxley has two shows this coming week for Northeast Wrestling. He’s working Friday night in Waterbury, CT at the PAL against Darby Allin. The show is almost sold out. Saturday he’ll be at Six Flags in Jackson, NJ with a free show with a park admission which includes appearances by Booker T, Mick Foley, Enzo & Cass, Darby Allin, Rene Young, Boogeyman and JT Dunn.

Ace Romero, who took an accidental knee to the face at yesterday’s House of Hardcore show in a match with Mad Man Fulton, is okay. He was rocked and as a precautionary measure the doctor stopped the match. New York is a commission state so they have doctors. We’ve seen two incidents this weekend, one with Goldberg vs. Undertaker and one with Tetsuya Naito vs. Kota Ibushi, where the doctors should have stopped the match due to a sign of a concussion in the former and a neck injury in the latter.

We don’t have an update on Ibushi past that he’s okay but has a swollen left eye from his match yesterday. He hasn’t been pulled from any bookings.

WWE
Ric Flair said that he would be releasing another video on Friday.

A correction from yesterday’s show when talking about Will Ospreay and Robbie Eagles. They have had three previous singles matches. They had a 2017 match for PWA in Sydney, Australia, a 2018 how for PWA in Sydney (the big one) and their recent Best of The Super Juniors match. The PWG match I was thinking of was Ospreay vs. Adam Brooks.
Eagles vs. Michael Spencer and Mick Moretti vs. Tommy Knight were announced for PWA on 6/14 in Sydney.
