Olympic medalist Anthony Ogogo signs with AEW

Olympic medalist Anthony Ogogo has signed with AEW.

Cody Rhodes appeared at today’s Southside Wrestling event in Hertfordshire, England to make the announcement. Later in the show, MJF and Ogogo got into a war of words. MJF dared Ogogo, a former professional boxer, to punch him. Ogogo obliged, laying him out. After the scuffle, Ogogo said that he would be seeing him on Wednesday nights.

Ogogo, 30, is a former olympic medalist, scoring the bronze medal in boxing in the middleweight division at the 2012 Olympic games in London. He later went on to have a professional boxing record of 11-1.

His story was featured in The Road to Double or Nothing’s twelfth episode back in April, going further into his story and showing footage of him training to become a professional wrestler.

The Southside Wrestling event is the final card under that name as they will be merging with Revolution Pro. Today was its ninth anniversary event and originally was supposed to feature NXT UK talent including Ligero, Kay Lee Ray, Xia Brookside and others. They were all pulled by WWE back in September.

It was later announced that AEW talent, including Cody and Brandi Rhodes, MJF and Shawn Spears would instead be part of the event.
