India, for the first time, has a record 49 institutes among the best universities in the world, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2019 published Wednesday. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is the top institute in the country and the list saw some fresh names including the Indian Institute of Technology in Indore (IIT Indore), established some time ago, in the global rankings.

However, none of the Indian universities made it to the top 200 global list which is topped by Oxford University. IIT-Indore overtook IIT-Bombay, which slipped from the 351-400 to 401-500 banding.
