Wounded And Alone, Children Emerge From Last Islamic State Enclave
With last ISIS bastion falling in eastern Syria, the victims who lived the wrath of the self-proclaimed caliphate have come out wounded and alone. One such victim is Hareth Najem and his family had died two years ago in an air strike across the border in al-Qaim region. He is an Iraqi by nationality.
“I had two brothers and a sister. They all died, and then I was by myself,” Hareth told Reuters, tears filling his eyes. “My little sister, I loved her a lot. I used to take her with me to the market.”
Hareth was travelling in a cattle truck with another boy who was injured. They both were at a desert transit point for the US-backed forces and he had his face covered with dirt with bandages wrapped around his forehead covering injuring he received days back.
