Designers of the future
Last week third year Fashion Design students showed their work-in-progress final collections to win their place on the catwalk during Graduate Fashion Week. The event will take place at Earls Court in London from Sunday 6 to Thursday 10 June. Fashion names Karen Millen and Anthony Campbell recently joined a panel of judges to select De Montfort University (DMU) students. The 14 students who were picked will now showcase their collections in front of established industry names at the DMU catwalk on Tuesday 8 June.
Karen Millen, said: “What was impressive about the students was the really varied techniques they were using to create some really individual pieces that will look fantastic on the catwalk. It’s good to see the passion and involvement they already have within the industry they want a career in and that’ll definitely stand them in good stead once they graduate.”
The students whose work will feature on the DMU catwalk are students from Coventry, West Midlands; Tickenham, North Somerset; St. Petersburg, Russia; and Intisaar Mukadam – Harare, Zimbabwe to name a few. On 8 June, the students’ designs will appear in the University’s fashion brochures, with the images shot by fashion photographer Fabrice Lachant. DMU is also hosting a catwalk show at Freemasons Hall in Covent Garden, London, to showcase Contour and Contour Fashion students’ collections on Tuesday 14 June.
