SANTEE, CA — Santee Trader Joe’s has an official grand opening date.

The grocery store will open its doors Aug. 1 at 9680 Mission George Road. The artwork in the store’s 10,072-square-foot space will highlight local landmarks, including Santee Lakes.

“We feel the community and location are a great fit,” Nakia Rohde, a spokesperson for Trader Joe’s, told Patch. “We have an awesome crew that is ready to welcome our customers.”

The company announced it would hire 80 new employees from surrounding areas and transfer in 25 others from neighboring stores to run the Santee location. In addition, the Santee store will donate 100% of its products that aren’t sold to nonprofit, community-based organizations through the grocery store chain’s Neighborhood Shares Program.

“Inside this neighborhood grocery store, customers will find outstanding value in the form of the best quality products at the best everyday prices and friendly crew members who create a shopping environment that imparts adventure, humor, and a warm sense of community,” a news release from the company said.

In May, the chain announced plans to open 24 new stores across the country, including eight in Southern California and two in the San Diego area. In addition to the Santee location, another store is slated to open in Poway. Rohde said there is no opening date yet for the Poway store.

The company launched in 1967 in the Los Angeles area and has since expanded to more than 550 stores in 42 states and Washington, D.C.

The Santee location will open after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:55 a.m. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
