Old Fire Station's Fate Sealed In Canton
CANTON, CT — With a new Collinsville Fire Station nearly finished and ready for use by local firefighters and emergency responders, the current site’s future appears to have been finalized.
It will likely come down.
Voters at a special town meeting in Canton last week voted 52-37 against seeking a feasibility study to look into repurposing the existing fire station at 51 River Road.

Several people spoke about the question at the meeting, which was Thursday, June 27, at Canton High School.
The topic of the vote simply asked if the Town of Canton should “seek funding to complete a feasibility study and cost estimate for repurposing the existing Collinsville Fire Station, located at 51 River Road, as a storage facility.”

In 2021, voters said “yes” to building a new headquarters on 51 River Road in Collinsville for the Town of Canton Fire & EMS Services for about $4.95 million.

Last year, the town broke ground on the project and work is progressing toward completion on the new site soon.
Last April, the Canton Board of Selectmen initially nixed a Canton Board of Education request to repurpose the old firehouse for school system storage.
The board didn’t vote on the project but decided by consensus to squash the idea.
In recent weeks, however, it has been decided to bring the issue to the townspeople to weigh in, which they did … saying “no” to any future studies of the site.
Meanwhile, the Town of Canton’s Fire & EMS Services Department released new drone images of the construction at the site of the new firehouse, which is nearly complete.
