ROH/NWA News: ROH and NWA split, Aldis title defense removed from Summer Supercard (w/Radican’s Analysis)

SPOTLIGHTED PODCAST ALERT (YOUR ARTICLE BEGINS A FEW INCHES DOWN)…

-ROH and NWA are no longer working together PWTorch has confirmed. Nick Aldis had been set to defend the NWA Worlds Championship against a member of Villain Club stemming from an angle that had been set up at ROH TV, but that match has been removed from advertising for ROH’s Summer Supercard set to take place on Aug. 9 in Toronto.

One piece of business that hasn’t been sorted out yet is that Brody King & PCO are the current NWA World Tag Team Champions. They won the belts at the Crockett Cup on April 27.

NWA VP Dave Lagana, who had been receiving high marks behind the scenes for the job he had been doing producing pre-tapes since the beginning of the year, finished his last date with the company at Mass Hysteria last Sunday.

PWTorch has been told by multiple sources on both sides that the decision to part ways was mutual and amicable. The plan is for NWA to eventually begin producing their own weekly television show later in the year. The door is said to be open for both promotions to work together in the future. Mike Johnson of pwinsider.com was the first to report the news of NWA and ROH parting ways.

Radican’s Analysis: This is another blow for ROH, which hasn’t been getting a lot of good publicity lately outside of holding a really good TV taping that aired live on Honor Club last weekend. ROH’s attendance numbers appeared to be very low in New York and Lowell last weekend with many visible seats shown on camera and tweeted out by those attending both shows.

NWA had been one of the better aspects of ROH  this year on TV and PPV. The Crockett Cup was a fantastic event back in April and I was looking forward to seeing both companies work together, but I’m not surprised they went their separate ways with NWA looking to grow and ROH looking to find a way to get their new roster over. It does seem like something must have happened recently between both sides for Aldis’s match to get pulled from Summer Supercard.

NWA VP Lagana tweeted out the following message following ROH event last Sunday:
