Downtown District Sign Tile Painting Begins
LA MESA, CA — Residents who purchased tiles for La Mesa’s Downtown District sign are invited to paint their tiles, the city announced in a news release.
“Exciting news about the Downtown District Sign,” the city said. “The fundraising goal has been reached and that means it is time to move to the next phase – Tile Painting!”
The new downtown district sign is a community project led by the La Mesa Village Association in partnership with the La Mesa Park & Recreation Foundation to build a new focal point in downtown La Mesa.

All participants who reserved and paid for a tile(s) can stop in to CeramiCafe at 5500 Grossmont Center to paint their tiles, the city said.
CeramiCafe is open Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

While walk-ins are welcome, reservations are recommended and can be made online at the CeramiCafe website. Participants should tell CeramiCafe staff they are there to paint their tile(s) for the Downtown District Sign.

CeramiCafe does have a master list of all participants and can be reached by calling 619-466-4800, the city said.
Construction on the sign, which will be located in the heart of the Village at La Mesa Boulevard and Palm Avenue, is tentatively planned to begin in the fall of 2023.
When completed the sign will consist of two columns adorned with brass plaques and 1,512 hand-painted 4 inch by 4 inch tiles funded through community donations.
