Marseille’s Chancel Mbemba on loss to PSG: “We came here to win.”
Speaking to Prime Video (via RMC) in the wake of Marseille’s away loss in the Classique to Paris Saint-Germain, Chancel Mbemba reflected on a night in which he largely kept PSG’s star attacking trident quiet.
The Congolese defender was one of his team’s standout performers at the Parc des Princes, contributing to keeping the score down alongside his goalkeeper Pau López, despite the eventual defeat.
“We knew today would be difficult. We got the match wrong. We conceded a lot of chances, we should have scored on the counter. That’s how football works. When you miss, it’s a shame when you play against PSG’s attackers. When you have the chance, you’re meant to score, and we missed.”
“We came here to win. I had to give it all for the shirt. It was a very important game for us. We came to take the three points but we got our match wrong. I have a lot of regrets. But we’re going to work towards the next game. [On stopping PSG’s forwards] In Africa I would play as a number 8, number 10 – I always look at a forward’s first move. I still have a trace of that.”
