Lyon makes a last-minute move for Wolves target João Gomes
According to Santi Aouna, Lyon are attempting to derail talks between Brazilian youth international João Gomes and Wolverhampton. The 21-year-old Flamengo midfielder has been the target of several Premier League clubs before the Wolves reportedly became the front runners.
OL has reportedly outbid the Premier League club with a reported offer to Flamengo of 18+2 M € for the midfielder. There were no details on if the player has had any substantive talks with the Ligue 1 club, but OL has had a strong connection with Brazilian players who have gone on to do very well after leaving the club such as Bruno Guimarães.
As a player, the Brazilian is a central midfielder who can play centrally, box-to-box, or in a deeper role as a defensive midfielder. He has a very high work rate and great ball control. While he is not a “ball winner”, he is strong defensively and overall a very well-rounded midfielder with plenty of time to grow. If OL are able to hijack Gomes from Wolves, it would be a huge turnaround to their transfer deadlock.
