Heavy metal band Slipknot now has its own branded whiskies

Heavy metal band Slipknot is expanding into the liquor industry.

The insanely popular group, known for its aggressive style of music, high-energy concerts and scary masks, is set to launch its own range of branded American whiskies on Aug. 10.

The spirit will be called “No 9. Iowa Whiskey,” the product of a collaboration between Slipknot and Iowa-based, family-owned Cedar Ridge Winery and Distillery.

Forbes “spirits” guru Fred Minnick declares the end result “really good.” Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan admitted to Minnick that he used to be a Jack Daniels man — but not anymore.

“The Cedar Ridge stuff is just so wonderful and beautiful,” he said. “I’m proud to be able to give our fans and the rest of the world a fine quality whiskey.”

Crahan also revealed that the band would be signing bottles for its die-hard followers — and he forecasts mammoth sales.

“I’m expecting the outside world to come in and love this whiskey,” he said. “That’s the hope, that the whole world loves it, but really this is for my people … When I take this out on the road, it’s just going to go.”

Asked how he drinks his whiskey, the rocker said: “I like a couple ice cubes, small glass and just sip. I take my time, but definitely like it cold.”

The No. 9 Iowa Whiskey (90 proof/45% ABV) will sell for $39.99, while the higher strength No. 9 Reserve Iowa Whiskey (99 proof/49.5% ABA) is priced at $69.99.

Slipknot’s foray into the liquor business comes during a tumultuous but successful year for the band.

In March, the Des Moines, Iowa-based group split with percussionist Chris Fehn before vocalist Corey Taylor said the musician wrongfully accused the band of stealing money. The same day, three Slipknot songs were certified Platinum in the US.

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) heralded the significance of Slipknot’s “Wait and Bleed,” “Before I Forget” and “Snuff,” the three tunes which were deemed Platinum singles by the music business trade organization.

In America, an RIAA Platinum certification is achieved when a single moves one million in total units. In 2016, the RIAA amended the rules to allow streams and downloading to be weighted toward that total, according to Billboard.

In album sales, “Slipknot,” “ Iowa, Vol. 3” and “All Hope Is Gone” have all hit platinum status.

Meanwhile, Slipknot’s much-anticipated sixth album “We Are Not Your Kind” will be released Aug. 9.
