Trump, Pelosi wage Twitter war over ‘stammer’ video

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and President Trump traded insults on Twitter Thursday evening after Trump tweeted a video that showed moments when the Democratic congresswoman stammered during a press conference Thursday.

Trump tweeted the video at about 9 p.m. after a long day of back and forth between the two politicians. It contained a series of clips pulled from footage of a 20-minute press briefing in which Pelosi stumbled over her words or paused.

“‘PELOSI STAMMERS THROUGH NEWS CONFERENCE,’” he captioned the video, which was from a Fox Business News segment.

Pelosi’s camp responded on her @teampelosi political account, saying the president was trying to “distract” the American public.

“He’s distracting from House Democrats’ great accomplishments #ForThePeople, from his cover-ups, and unpopularity,” they wrote.

“We repeat, we wish that his family or his Administration or his staff would have an intervention for the good of the country,” the tweet added.

Other, separate videos of Pelosi, which were purposefully doctored to make her appear drunk, had been circulating on social media since earlier this week and received outrage from Pelosi’s daughter Christine.

The spat over the video came after a meeting between Pelosi, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-New York) and Trump on infrastructure broke down Wednesday and Trump and Pelosi lobbed insults at each other Thursday.

The president at a White House event questioned Pelosi’s mental health — calling her “Crazy Nancy” —  while describing himself as an “extremely stable genius.”
